Slovenia
Julian Alps & Soča Valley
The Soča between the Napoleon Bridge in Kobarid and the Tolminka confluence is the heart of Slovenia's marble-trout fishing: big pools, fast runs and that impossible emerald colour. It is fly-fishing only, one artificial fly on a single barbless hook, and almost everyone fishes catch & release. Permits are sold by RD Tolmin and cover all twelve of the club's rivers for the day.

Good to Know

Can I spin fish or use bait?

No. The whole RD Tolmin system is fly fishing only: one artificial fly, single barbless hook. Spinners, lures and natural bait are not allowed.

Do I need a Slovenian fishing licence or exam?

No. The day permit of the operator plus a photo ID is all a visiting angler needs.

Can my child fish with me?

Yes — a child up to 15 may fish together with the permit holder on the same permit.

What if the river is closed because of heat?

RD Tolmin announces closures on its website; there is no automatic cash refund, so buy your permit on the day when conditions are uncertain.
